Wildrose Western Dancers

Established 1989

OUR MOTTO IS    -      DANCING FOR FUN & FRIENDSHIP

We began running the dance class after September 1989 when we came back from a Country & Western Fortnight at Pontins Hemsby.   Val myself and one or two more were trying to remember the dances we had been taught on the Sunday club night.

Several people were more than interested and kept asking if I would teach them - well as I had no idea of terminology etc I contacted Norma & Bill Morrison who agreed to come on a weekly basis to give instruction.   After a couple of years they were very involved with competition work and said they would be able to make it fortnightly and told me I was quite capable of taking the class on the weeks she was not there.  I learnt all she told me and from then on I carried on every fortnight until they could not come anymore.

We attended lots of workshops etc and eventually Coral & Ivan Burton invited us to instruct for them at Butlins which we did for Eight years and enjoyed every minute.   Lots of the people we taught there became firm friends and come to the class to this day.  Christmas bring cards from people we met at Butlins even 2 of the ministers and their wives still keep in touch, thats lovely we love to hear from them all -  some come to see us when they get to know we will be at certain Festivals - now thats Country friendship for you.

Most of our dancers have been with us many years we also have some joining 2 years ago and up to present time.

They are a great crowd and enjoy each others company so much so that they go away together to Festivals and Workshops up and down the country.

The Girls & Boys above are just a few of our friends from the dance class I will get photo's of the others and post them on the site later.

Our dance class is held every TUESDAY at Rothwell Parish Centre and begins around 8.30pm till late, it is a "Bring Your Own Drinks" venue myself Ruth & John provide a little food for the interval

We provide Partner & Line Dance Instruction to Country Music, trying to teach the latest Partner dances as our class consists of more Partner than Line dancers but we also teach Line dance's for those who want to do them.  Now that Mary has retired Alan ably assisted by Sonia do the instruction whilst Roger sees to the music.

Dance Floor Etiquette is a must at all times, Partners around the outside edge, Line in the middle of the floor.

The weekly admission is £2 each.  Free Tea/Coffee & Food.

We hold a raffle all monies going towards Parties, obviously no one is forced to buy tickets but this means they have to pay a small amount of £3 per person entry on the night.  This is because most of our member leave money for tickets when they are away so it would be unfair not to charge people who do not buy the tickets.  If they take into consideration the fact that most people who buy pay a lot more than £3!!!

Normal clothing unless you prefer Western Wear on class nights, Western Wear is worn on Party Nights.

Our outings  range from Workshops/Festivals to seaside visits.  Mason Dixie in September a workshop not to be missed.

Blackpool Theme Weekend in November, fancy dress for those who wish to join in the themes, Scarborough in December for The Anthony Nolan Bone Marrow charity, May Day weekend in Scotland with Montana & BCMC.

We celebrate Christmas in style our Parties are great everyone pulling together with food and the table always bows under the weight.
